Haney to step down as Head Coach
By Goldfields Giants Media
The Silver Lake Resources Goldfields Giants hereby advise that Michael Haney will be stepping down as Head Coach once his 2016 contract ends on the 18th of September.
Mike recently met with the club and advised that work and personal commitments will prevent him from being able to dedicate the time and effort required to coach at a level expected for an SBL team.
Giants chairman Jamie Crombie spoke highly of Haney’s time with the Giants as a player and a coach.
“Mike first came to Kalgoorlie in 2007 and had an immediate impact, leading the team to successive championships.”
“After playing for a number of years he retired, but then took on roles as both our Assistant Coach and then our Head Coach over the past two seasons”
“It’s unfortunate that Mike is stepping down but in this instance family comes first and we totally support and respect that”.
“On a positive, Mike has indicated that he would like to still be involved in some capacity, so I’m sure his face will still be seen around the club for the immediate future.”
While as a player, Mike was renowned for his toughness, heart and skill, and he brought those attributes with him as Head Coach over the past two years, and that legacy will remain, in particular with the younger development players.
The club will now begin the process of looking for a replacement, and will advertise both locally and outside the region.
