Coach Causer Ready For A Giant Challenge
By Goldfields Giants Media

The Silver Lake Resources Goldfields Giants month long search for a new head coach has concluded with the appointment of Lou Causer into the role.

After a five year, 74 game State Basketball League playing career with the Geraldton Buccaneers and Goldfields Giants that was cut short by a knee injury, Causer has found his calling after taking on the role as the Giants head assistant coach in 2015 and over the last two seasons has provided a wealth of knowledge and a high basketball IQ.

Learning from one of the best coaches in the league in Michael Haney, Causer has quickly developed a strong coaching mindset.
Haney spoke highly of him at the recent Giants MVP Awards, saying how he constantly put his trust in him, running training sessions, calling all of the in-game substitutions and putting in a mountain of work with the players. from imports to rookies alike.

His efforts over the last two seasons with the imports was a big reason for their quick acclimation to the league along with his work with the rookie players, working with them constantly and giving them every opportunity to succeed.

Despite having considerable interest shown from Perth and Eastern States based coaches as well as overseas, the Giants hierarchy chose Causer to lead them forward and have thrown their unanimous support behind the local coach.

“Our Board is very excited about Lou’s appointment to lead our team as Head Coach” Giants chairman Jamie Crombie said, “We see an excellent fit with what we are out to do.”

“It is unmistakably a demanding role, and after spending a lot of time with Lou as a co-Assistant Coach last season I have witnessed his impressive passion for Giants basketball, his good relationships with our players, and his potential to be very successful in the role.”

“He is aligned with the club expectation to be competitive in finals every year. We have the best supporters in the league and they deserve to be part of something special. I’m clear he’s the right man for the job”.

Causer is set to become the 16th Giants head coach in the club’s history and at 26 years of age, he will become the youngest in Giants history when he makes is debut next March, just edging out Marcus Taylor who made his coaching debut in 2001 at age 27.
