The Northern Star Resources Goldfields Giants are excited to announce that local sporting identity, Russell Duncan will be taking on the role of club chairman for season 2020.
After incumbent chairman Jamie Crombie announced his decision to step down at seasons’ end, the Giants hierarchy looked at suitable candidates to take on the important role, and Duncan stood head and shoulders above the rest.
With a strong and successful background as a league footballer, business owner and also sports association leadership roles, including being president from the Goldfields Soccer Association for five years, Duncan will provide the Giants with the knowledge and prowess to ensure their viability in the league and be one of the elite programs in the local sporting landscape.
“I’m excited to take on the position with the Giants and help them build on a successful 2019 season”, Duncan said.
“Despite the success, we’ve got a lot of work to do, on and off the court, to make the Giants one of the powerhouses in the State Basketball League once again.”
“I’ve been on the sidelines looking on watching my son Riley join the squad and develop into a regular SBL player and I feel with the right work, we can help provide this pathway to many more players through our Division 1 programs, for both the men and women.”
Duncan has wasted little time stepping into the role, already getting to work on the Giants management structures and overseeing the appointment and recruitment of coaches and players for the upcoming season.
Stay tuned for upcoming news when these signings happen as the Giants head into their 30th year in the WA State Basketball League.
