Bowler creates history

Daniel Bowler will make history as the Silver Lake Resources Goldfields Giants'' youngest-ever chairman during the upcoming State Basketball League campaign after being formally elected to the position last week.

The 30-year-old continues a long and proud family association among the club''s ranks, with his father, local MP John Bowler, and older brother Jimmy both life members.

John Bowler, who retains a spot on the board, served as the Giants'' chairman from 2001 to 2006.

Daniel Bowler assumes the top role, where he brings a strong business background to the job, from Graham Crew after serving a year on the board.

Crew will maintain a significant involvement as deputy-chairman.

"At a board level, the Giants are supposed to be run like a business - there''s costs, income, expenses and all the rest and it needs to be run that way," Bowler said.
